When Opposites Attract (Kimi ni Todoke)

She scares people away from her. He attracts people towards him. She always has a dark aura around her. he gives off a refreshing feeling to everyone around him. Two very different people right? But Kuronuma Sawako and Kazehaya Shouta, together with their friends, can pull a dramatic, comedic, and romantic scenes which can make you fall in love in the story of Kimi ni Todoke.

Kimi ni Todoke was first a shoujo manga series by Shiina Karuho. it gained much popularity and even won the Best Shōjo Manga award in the 32nd Annual Kodansha Manga Award. Production I.G produced the anime series of this.

Since I’m also reading its manga counterpart, I can’t help but have a high expectation on the series. The story still has its effects on me like when I started reading the manga. The good thing is that it follows closely the manga storyline. The downside is that the anime failed to show the depthness of the main characters’ personality unlike in the manga. On the contrary, it is more obvious on the supporting characters.

i loved how Production I.G made this. The animation, color, and effects are good. Production I.G really amazed me on howthey make sceneries of places like what they have done on their previous works (Tokyo Magnitude, Higashi no Eden to name a few). The story calmness on its theme, same goes to its music. The opening song “Kimi ni Todoke (きみにとどけ)” by Tomofumi Tanizawa and the ending song Kataomoi (片想い)” by Chara.

This one is recommended to those who don’t like to read the manga. This is also a must for those who want a romantic story for a change.
